No matter how frequently you wear a suit or sports jacket, with a few simple accessories you can add colour, pattern and playfulness to your look. Let us share some suggestions of how to accessorize your jacket.

Boutonniere:

A fabric floral boutonniere will add pop to your jacket. The boutonniere is buttoned to the buttonhole on your left lapel. You can simply match the colour of the boutonniere to a complementary colour in your jacket, shirt or tie (if you’re wearing a tie).

Lapel Pin:

Add a decorative touch to your look with a metal lapel pin. There are two options: stick or enamel. Both are worn in the lapel buttonhole. A stick lapel pin is long and thin. The lapel sits at the top of the pin and the needle and the cap sits at the bottom of the pin. An enamel lapel has a short pin which pierces directly through the material and is secured with a butterfly clasp.

Lapel pins are a great way to show your personality. There is a plethora of options to choose from such as animals, nature, sports and automotive, just to name a few.

Pocket Square:

A pocket square whether silk, cotton or linen can truly accessorize a jacket. For matching, make sure the pattern of the pocket square differs from the pattern of your tie but you can choose a complementary colour. If you’re not wearing a tie, you can complement your pocket square to your shirt or choose a contrast colour all together to break it up.

Scarf:

A scarf is a great way to accessorize a jacket. A scarf can be made of cotton, cashmere, silk, satin or light wool. Just remember not to pair a thick wool scarf with a suit or sports jacket, which is reserved for a coat. If you’re wearing a suit, you can simply drape the scarf over your neck without a knot. With a sports jacket, you can tie a European knot.

For matching, if you’re wearing a dark-coloured jacket, choose a bright coloured scarf. For a modern look, try a patterned scarf such as argyle, plaid, check or stripe.
