How to Layer Fragrance

If you’ve heard the term fragrance layering but weren’t exactly sure what it was or how to do it, we’re here to help you figure it out. And for the record, it’s much easier than you may think.

Fragrance layering is layering scented body products to increase longevity of a single scent. You may have noticed that many fragrance brands also offer scented body products, so if your favourite scent also comes in a shower gel, body wash, body cream, lotion, and deodorant, consider buying the full set.

Using scented body products also allows you to try out different fragrances before you’re ready to purchase a new eau de parfum, eau de toilette or eau de cologne.

Begin with a base layer, wash with a scented shower gel or body wash. After your shower, while the skin is still moist, apply a scented body cream or lotion. Fragrance is proven to last longer on well hydrated skin. Next apply your deodorant, whether stick or spray.

Before you spray on your fragrance, make sure the body lotion or cream has absorbed on the skin. Body lotion or cream does serve as a base for the fragrance to cling onto the skin for better longevity.

Whether your fragrance is eau de parfum, eau de toilette or eau de cologne, it’s important to learn which body parts to spray the fragrance. Individual parts of the body have their own inherent smell and so will hold fragrance in a different way and diffuse it at a different rate. Aim for heat areas such as chest, neck, wrist, forearm or inner elbow. Don’t spray all these areas at the same time, start with one and then slowly move to another area. And, remember less is more – don’t over spray.

At Gentil Uomo, we carry exceptional fragrance products and many of our fragrance lines come with scented body products. And we’ve also made it easy for you to choose a fragrance based on your preferred fragrance family.

Alla prossima – until next time. Arrivederci.
