With dress socks, if you’re in a more traditional setting, keep it safe by wearing solid black, brown or navy socks. Simply match the sock colour to your pant colour. But even with solid colour socks you can still play with texture like choosing a ribbed sock.

If you want to step up from traditional solid colours, try stripes, polka dots or argyle patterned socks. All three of these patterns are timeless and make for easy matching. Just remember to avoid matching the pattern of your socks with a pattern that already exists in your outfit. For example, if you’re wearing a polka dot shirt, avoid dotted socks.

When it comes to colour matching, a good rule is to mirror your sock colour with another colour that you’re wearing above the waistline such as a tie or pocket square.

When wearing loafers, low-profile shoes or low-top sneakers, no-show socks are the way to go. You can look as if you’re not wearing socks, but more importantly, your feet will be comfortable and dry. And the silicon grips on the heels help keep the socks in place.
