Today, scarves have become a staple in a man’s closet – and rightly so. Scarves are not only a functional accessory but a fashion accessory as well. While most men wear scarves to stay warm during cold days, scarves are now considered an accessory that can elevate your outfit throughout the year.
When to wear a scarf:
- In winter months, wool or cashmere scarves are most common because they keep you warm.
- For business or day wear, a thin scarf made of cotton, cashmere or silk with a simple print can be worn over a suit or jacket.
- A great alternative to consider is an elegant reversible scarf – one side is silk and the other side is wool. This scarf will definitely add a dash of style to your look.
- You can also wear a scarf in warmer months. A summer scarf made of cotton or linen in vibrant colours and patterns can be worn over a shirt or light jacket.
How to wear a scarf:
- Drape – the simplest way to wear a scarf. Just drape the scarf over your neck, equal lengths on each side, and don’t tie it. This allows the scarf to be the accent piece to your attire. A perfect addition to business and semi-formal looks, the drape scarf can be worn over or under coats, blazers, and jackets.
- Once or Twice Around – a nice balance between a polished and relaxed look. You simply wrap the scarf once or twice (if desired) around your neck, with no knot. The ends of the scarf can either be equal length or uneven. This option looks great over a cardigan or coat.
- Ascot or Double Ascot – both options of knots are perfect to wear tucked into a jacket or blazer. Both functional and fashionable, they’ll each provide you with some warmth and sophistication.
- European Knot – great for a night out, providing warmth and style. Make sure you have a longer scarf for this knot and one that is not too bulky.
- Fake Knot – works well when you want to add an accent without too much effort. A perfect knot when you want to try out a colourful or patterned scarf.
