Fall is a great time of the year to start fresh. We’re all back to a regular routine, whether it is back to school or back to work after having some time off to enjoy a great summer. So, how do you start fresh in the wardrobe department? The answer is simple: accessorize.
What’s so great about men’s fashion today is the ability to transform a look with a few new accessories. You don’t need to be too flashy nor do you need to spend too much money to add a bit of pop to your outfit. Let’s start from the top.
Scarf – yes, men do wear scarves to keep them warm in winter but they are an excellent way to accessorize an outfit. Adding a coloured cashmere or wool scarf to a winter coat will brighten up your look. Loosely wrapping a scarf over a suit jacket is also stylish.
Boutonniere – a silk floral boutonniere will add pop to your jacket. The boutonniere is buttoned to the buttonhole on your left lapel. Just make sure the colour of the boutonniere is complementary to another piece of clothing you’re wearing above the waist.
Pocket Square – a silk pocket square can truly accessorize a jacket. As for matching, make sure the pattern of the pocket square differs from the pattern of your tie but you can choose a complementary colour. If you’re not wearing a tie, you can complement your pocket square to your shirt or choose a contrast colour all together to break it up.
Tie clip – a tie clip can add a nice touch to your tie and can be worn to work or a social event. Just remember that the tie clip is worn between the third and fourth buttons of your shirt.
Cufflinks – there are some men who only wear French cuff shirts so they can wear cufflinks. Cufflinks can be worn for business or social events. With the variety of styles available the best rule is to try to be complementary to your outfit.
Bracelet – with today’s variety of bracelets from metal to leather men have options on how to accessorize their wrists. You can layer bracelets but don’t wear too many at the same time. You can also wear a bracelet with a watch but make sure they complement each other.
Socks – we love socks! Check out our blog on style tips on how to wear socks to complete your look.
Shoelaces – you can make a fashion statement by simply adding coloured shoelaces to your dress shoes. Just match them to either your socks or another colour above the waist such as your pocket square or tie.
So, there you have it – some accessories that you can easily add to your wardrobe that will not only freshen it up but also add some pop.
Alla prossima – until next time. Arrivederci.
