Most men do this once a day, while others a few times a week. Some men know exactly what they’re doing, but others need a little advice. You guessed it, I’m talking about shaving. So, let me give you some helpful tips – man to man.
Before Shaving
I know most men shower after they shave but it’s a good idea to shower before you shave. A warm shower will open up your facial pores and follicles, and loosen hairs to make it easier for a razor to glide. If you’re skipping a shower, make sure you wash your face first with hot water and use a facial cleanser or a scrub to remove oil, dirt and dead skin.
While Shaving
Apply a shaving cream, gel, foam or soap – if you’re using a shaving brush. A traditional shaving brush is great at getting under the hair to lift the follicles.
Use your hands to apply shaving cream, gel or foam, massage using an upward circular motion to work up the lather.
Shave by starting with the grain and not against the grain and, if a second pass is needed, you can go against the grain. Be gentle and use short strokes, and don’t press too hard.
Rinse your blade often and don’t shave over an area that isn’t covered by lather as this may cause irritation.
After Shaving
Just because you’re done shaving, doesn’t mean you’re done. You’re done when the skin is protected and hydrated. After you shave, rinse your face with cold water or apply a cold towel to help close the pores.
Apply an after shave oil, lotion or gel as this helps soothe the skin, disinfect it, and create a defensive layer.
Rinse your blade with hot water and then store it upright in a cool, dry place. And remember to replace your razor every 6-8 shaves. There’s nothing worst than shaving with a dull bade.
